When Did You Stop Feeling Special?

We have friends who recently had a baby. I kept saying “Oh, there’s this great baby book on self esteem that I want to get for them.”

God bless my husband.

What he thought (sarcastically), and did not say, was “oh, that sounds like a great book.”

Weeks later, one of my kids asked, “Mommy, what’s that baby book you keep talking about buying?”

I said “On the Night You Were Born.”

My husband responded, “Oh, that book? That actually is a good book. I’ve had no idea what book you could be talking about this whole time and it sounded so boring.”

Awesome.

(note to self: hubby is not my ideal audience)

The book starts with:

On the night you were born,

The moon smiled with such wonder

That the stars peeked in to see you

And the night wind whispered

“Life will never be the same.”

Because there had never been anyone like you…

Ever in the world.

One of the last pages reads:

So whenever you doubt just how special you are

And you wonder who loves you, how much and how far

Listen for geese honking high in the sky.

(They’re singing a song to remember you by.)

Or notice the bears asleep at the zoo.

(It’s because they’ve been dancing all night for you!)

Or drift off to sleep to the sound of the wind.

(Listen closely… it’s whispering your name again!)

Here’s my question for you:

When did you stop believing that message?

That message, my friend, is healthy self esteem.

I am uniquely me.

I stand equal to all – eye to eye and toe to toe.

I am enough and I matter.

If you’re anything like me – you have no idea when your self esteem shifted, nor why it shifted, and you’ve been at a loss for years about how to repair it.

Lucky for you, I know how to repair it!

Not only do I know professionally and help women do this… I’ve lived this journey as well.
